Canadian Cancer Society Pursues Elimination of Asbestos-Related Diseases
11 July 2007 TORONTO - The Canadian Cancer Society is calling on the federal government to adopt a comprehensive asbestos strategy, including the eventual phasing out of both the use and export of this substance.
“The Society believes that exposure to asbestos must stop so that asbestos-related diseases can be eliminated,” says Dr. Barbara Whylie, CEO, Canadian Cancer Society, in announcing a new position adopted by the National Board of Directors.

CANADA MUST CLEAN UP ITS ACT ON ASBESTOS
Pat is campaigning to end the practice of exporting asbestos to countries that do not protect worker safety.
The Canadian government has been turning a blind eye to the death and disease Canadian asbestos has left behind in so many countries throughout the developing world.
And back in Canada, Zonolite asbestos-laden insulation has also caused death and disease in countless Canadian families.
Both in Canada and abroad, our government refuses to act to protect people from asbestos.
We need Canadian buildings cleaned of asbestos, we need to contact all workers who have been exposed to asbestos and we need to invest in health centres of excellence across the country to provide proper diagnostics and treatment for those made sick from asbestos.
Please take the time to have your voice heard! Download the petition attached at the bottom of this page, fill it out and send it to Pat's office in Ottawa where it will be presented to the House of Commons. Put the completed petitions in an envelope and address them to:
