Help reduce global warming

Global warming is already having dramatic impacts on our nation and our world. Left unchecked, this trend presents the greatest threat humanity has ever faced.

The good news is that by working together and making real changes, we can prevent the most catastrophic effects of global warming. But we need to start now.

Here are a few ways you can take personal action:

  1. Use efficient lighting and electrical appliances in your home. Look for the Energy Star label.
  2. Drive less. Bike, walk, car-pool or use transit whenever possible.
  3. If you need a new car, consider one that uses hybrid technology.
  4. Fly less. One transatlantic flight for a family of four creates more carbon dioxide than that family generates domestically in an entire year. If you must fly, consider offsetting your carbon.
  5. Write your elected officials and urge them to set binding targets for reducing our country’s greenhouse-gas emissions. Learn more about the NDP’s plan for addressing climate change.
  6. Have a home energy audit done for your house. It will tell you how you can save energy — and money.
  7. Inform yourself. Watch Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth. Read The Weather Makers. Check out the websites listed below.
  8. 8. Tell your friends and family about global warming and how they can help safeguard the future for our children.
