I would like to see food companies stop using trans fats in their products. |

Keep on the government's tail about the Trans Fatty Acids issue. It's a crying shame that this dosen't receive more attention and backing considering some other notable jurisdictions in the world scene have already banned the Trans fatty acids.
Good luck Pat and I hope your own party backs you on this.

It is completely irresponsible to allow the use of 'Trans fatty acids'in our food knowing the detrimental affect it will cause to the health of all Canadian citizens, young and old.
I vehemently request that it become banned in Canada altogether. |

I think all rational Canadians would agree, that if a substance is known to be harmful to our health, it should be removed from the food supply as soon as possible, not merely be 'controlled' by labelling. |

My wife and I think that trans fats (trans fatty acids or hydrogenated vegetable oil) should be immediately banned outright in food products, including baby food. Giving processed food manufacturers five years to rewriting food lables to indicate trans fat content is not nearly good enough to protect the public good. |

Should NAFTA be a barrier to this Canadian safety initiative, then do something about NAFTA...obviously. |

The timeline for regulating trans fats can be, and should be, greatly expedited. These fats should also be banned. |

Thank you for making a stand on this issue. If Denmark can ban trans fats - so can we.
I am like many other mothers in Canada who have bought a lot of processed food in the past...but no more (except for the very small percentage that don't contain trans fats). However, it is a difficult task due to the time constraints in today's world and the tremendous amount of effort and time required to plan and make meals and snacks from scratch. Even then there is no way to completely avoid trans fats - kids get treats and other food outside the home all the time - at birthday parties, school parties, when visiting friends, etc.
Let's do the right thing, especially for the children, and give them the best chance for long and healthy lives.
Sincerely,
Laura Griffin

Thank you for the quick response to my e-mail. Why will baby foods be exempt from the new labelling requirements? Please keep me posted on this important issue. |
