1076	Neil Fiertel			AB	Trans fats are good for greasing axles and not for human consumption. They block arteries and build huge fat deposits. They are not needed in one's diet ...ever. They are not needed in foodstuffs and there are ways to eliminate them from product. It should not be necessary for every consumer to read through the tiny and detailed ingredients and try to ferret out if the company has slipped in this toxic trans fat ingredient into the mix. It should be the role of government to protect the consumer and not caveat emptor...Ban the trans fat and Canada will save billions in medical costs and help the citizenry to be healthier in so doing. Corporate interests in this matter are not in the least important. The health of our citizens must be the only issue to consider.

There are alternatives to trans fat use in foods. We can not rely on the processors to self regulate this harmful substance away. It is particularily incideous as many transfat products are those marketed to children, whom we must protect. Many items containing transfat contain misleading labelling such as " no cholesteral, made with 100% vegetable shortening" so to a child or most people it sounds like a heart healty product but in fact is is loaded with transfat.
